Remember thou art dust, and to dust thou shalt return.
I said that to quite a few people last night as I dipped my thumb into the ashes and oil mix. Many looked at me deeply in the eyes. Some said thank you. Some nodded their head as to acknowledge the validity of the statement.
There is something very powerful about touch. A sea of humanity. Each with their own issues and problems. And yet before the altar of the Lord we were on a common footing. All of us mortals with different agendae, different tugs pulling us in disparate directions.
We are now into the journey of Lent. Once again, I will attempt to modify what I eat. 40 days from now, we will see how successful I will be. But there is something about living the journey, walking the trail that leads to passion and triumph.
